Aloha & Welcome to the Hāmākua CDP Information Website!

A brief update on the status of the Hāmākua Community Development Plan (CDP)

Great News - as of July 1, 2009, the Hāmākua Community Development Plan project was funded by the County of Hawai‘i!  The CDP project team is excited and busily preparing to kick-off the CDP process.  We know the Hāmākua community is READY to start the CDP, so here is an idea of some of the things that will be going on in the next few months as we begin the process.

We are currently enlisting the kokua of three contract community liaisons to assist with community engagement and initial community input collection.  Community liaisons will be responsible for identifying and supporting community facilitators, coordinating small group talk story meetings, and ensuring input is correctly recorded and transmitted to the County.  For more information on how to be a contract community liaison, please contact Frecia Basilio, Resource Center Specialist at the Hawaii County Resource Center by phone at 961-8085 or via email at fbasilio@co.hawaii.hi.us.

CDP kick-off meetings will soon be held in Rural South Hilo, North Hilo, and Hāmākua.  At these introductory meetings we will provide an in-depth overview of the Hāmākua CDP process, make steering committee applications available, and begin to collect your input through small group Talk Story sessions throughout the community.

For more information on the Hāmākua CDP, please visit www.hamakuacdp.info.  As the CDP process unfolds, this website will be updated with current news, documents and drafts, survey results, steering committee meeting minutes – you name it – if it’s about the Hāmākua CDP, it will be posted here.

Also, we are on the lookout for resources in creating our Hāmākua community profile , so if you have access to or know of any previous planning documents, historical data (such as old maps, photos, etc), or other regional materials that might be helpful, we would love to hear about them.
